Diagnosis
Sclerotherapy is a wonderfully simple but effective treatment for spider veins.
Treatment
A concentrated saline (salt) solution is injected directly into the vein. There is only a mild stinging sensation. The solution causes scarring in the vessel which collapses and fades or disappears. Except for avoiding the sun during the healing period, there are very little restrictions.
Results
In many cases, the vessels require more than one treatment, and it is difficult to predict whether new spider veins will appear. Touch-ups may be required every few years. Most patients achieve 50 -90 percent improvement after several treatments.
