Augmentation with Mastopexy:

Diagnosis

You may want a breast lift if your breasts are resting against your skin or if most of the nipple and areaola are below the breast crease. We often ask our patients if they can hold a pencil under their breasts. If so, you may need a lift.

Some surgeons try to avoid doing a lift by putting in large breast implants. This is a fix for some women, but in others it makes the breasts too large, heavy and low – all characterstics of the aging breast and may result in a “matronly” look.

Treatment

The breast lift results in permanent scars around the arealoe, down the middle and sometimes underneath. Having a breast lift done at the same time as an augmentation is more technically challenging and can result in more complications than an implant alone. Some surgeons perform one at a time in a staged fashion.

Results

Despite the extra scars, most women are pleased with the improved shape of the breasts.

Breast Asymmetry Correction:

Diagnosis

Women with breast size, shape, width or nipple location differences may desire a cosmetic procedure to improve symmetry. This is a personal decision.

Treatment

Breasts can be augmented, lifted or reduced to achieve a better match.

Breast Augmentation:

Diagnosis

Breast Augmentation is a procedure done to enhance the size of your breasts by using breast implants.

Breast augmentation is not only a medical decision, it is a personal one. Many women find the procedure has helped their appearance and self confidence. The next step is to decide if the procedure is right for you.

Treatment

Saline (salt water) implants are commonly used to fill the breast implant shell. Saline is a natural part of the human body. Silicone implants have also become an augmentation option for women over the age of 22. Silicone implants are more highly cross linked than in years past and less likely to leak. The “No-Touch” technique is used with both types.

Breast implants can be placed under the breast tissue or below the chest muscle. Breast implants are surgically implanted using the periareolar incision, with the incision made along the edge of the colored area of the nipple. The scar here is nearly invisible. An infra-mammary incision may also be used placing the incision in the skin fold below the breast.

Results

No one implant or incision placement is right for everyone. Know your options and discuss them with Dr. Honeycutt. Both of you can then decide what is best.

Breast Lift:

Diagnosis

Breasts can lose tone, sag and deflate with age or pregnancy. If the overall size is satisfactory, some women opt for a breast lift.

Treatment

The stretched skin is removed and the breast tissue is rotated upward and inward to reapproximate a more youthful contour. No implant is used.

Results

Scars are present but fade with time most women are satisfied and feel the better shape justifies the scars.

Breast Reconstruction:

Diagnosis

Women with congenital deformities such as hypoplasia, constricted breasts or tuberous breasts may elect to have reconstruction.

Treatment

Insurance companies may or may not pay for the procedure. Occasionally the reconstruction may involve several steps with a tissue expander followed by a permanent implant.

Results

Exact symmetry is rarely achieved but appearance is greatly improved. As with all implants maintenance may be required over the years.

Breast Reduction:

Diagnosis

If you are a woman with overly large breasts, breast reduction can be a life enhancing option. Breast reduction can be performed on women in whom breast development has stopped.

This procedure is often covered by insurance companies.

Treatment

Breast reduction is a procedure that removes excess breast tissue and skin, making your breasts more proportional to the rest of your body. The areola (the pigmented skin around the nipples) will also be reduced and repositioned to compliment your new breast size.

Results

Women have reported relief from many physical and emotional discomforts, and they gain freedom to exercise and the ability to wear a great variety of clothing styles.

Breast Implant Removal & Breast Revision:

Diagnosis

A breast implant patient may elect to replace her implants and do a breast lift if she is having excessive hardness, drooping, wrinkling or rippling, wishes a change in implant size, or chooses to replace sub-glandular implants with a sub-pectorally placed implant.

Treatment

The procedure is performed by removing the old implant(s) and replacing them with a new implant. After the new implant is in place the nipple and areola may or may not need to be repositioned. Sometimes excess skin is removed if a lift is performed. A breast lift (mastopexy) does leave noticeable, permanent scars. In most cases, breast and nipple sensation can be maintained.

Results

The results are softer, less rippled and more up-lifted breasts.
