Human Growth Factors in Skin Care

Human growth factors, cytokines and transcription factors are being added to skin care topicals. These factors are used after lasers peels and micro needling procedures to speed healing and improve results.

Most of these products are bio-engineered recombinant versions of natural froth factors. Below are a few of these growth factors with descriptions of their functions.

~ Epidermal Growth Factor ( EGF) speeds up cell proliferation and differentiation of various epidermal tissues. As we age, EGF production decreases, slowing skin renewal. Decreased EGF slows wound healing and may result in normal signs of skin aging, such as wrinkles and age spots. Since human EGF is extraordinarily expensive, skincare products use genetically engineered (recombinant ) rh-EGF, which is identical to natural EGF.

~ Fibroblast Growth Factor ( FGF) directs cells to generate collagen and elastin. Ageing skin ( the dermis, epidermis and underlying circulatory system) has been shown to benefit from FGF stimulation.

~ Insulin-Like Growth Factor I (IGF-I) promotes cell growth and proliferation.

~ Platelet-Derived Growth Factor ( PDGF) regulates cell growth and division. It is a potent activator for cells of mesenchymal origin, and a simulator of chemotaxis, proliferation and new gene expression in monocytes, macrophages and fibroblasts accelerating extracellular matrix deposition.

~ We offer AQ products which contain human fibroblast conditioned media and antioxidants. According to AQ Skin Solutions, multiple clinical studies have shown to reduce the signs of skin ageing, including statistically significant reductions in fine lines and wrinkles and increases in dermal collagen synthesis.
